Dan's Bassline Song

A song based on a bassline that Dan Gerritsen gave me in 1998 (Year 10), which has also been worked on more recently!

Dan's Bassline Song

This song is based on a bassline given to me (Arko) in high school (Year 10, 1998), by Dan Gerritsen (hence the title)... the verse and chorus were more or less written then (at that stage it was just an instrumental), with a bridge, lyrics and flute solo added many years later! My favourite aspects of this song are probably the feel and beat!

Lyrics:

Haunted by people who I might have once known

I find these days it is too much for me

That’s the way it goes

But there’s no sense trying to find answers here

The time comes to let go

Thrust into a world so completely unknown

Its joys but also woe for days lost

Onward we go

And you see we’re where we were meant to be

Here (in the game again), one last time

Sliding backwards

The final test will lie for those who go where angels fear to tread

That was your chance

You let the world slip through your hands

You’re down for the count now what have you got?

With the weight of many years ago in hand

Hard to take yourself back to the old times

With nought to say

And is anyone out there listening

Feelings brewing within

Taking flight with no idea where to go

Hoping to be landed somewhere safe

It passes by

And I’m no better off than I’d been

Here (right back to square one) one last time

There never seemed to be a way to come back home

It always led to paths which never took me where I had to go

That was your chance

You let the world slip through your hands

You’re down for the count now what have you got?

Times which shall prove to be false

Oh, the time where time was gone

And you’d naught seen the person there

Seen them go as they fade away

All is left in the mind’s eye

All that has been and that will be

It never seemed to be something I knew

There speaking to me, with me and you

And when I stared death in the face, it just laughed at me

It said you’ll never be the person that you thought that you might be

That was your chance

You let the world slip through your hands

You’re down for the count now what have you got?
